My friend Viv persuaded me to paint something for the Hull Feren’s Gallery open exhibition in 2005. I managed to finish it in about two days and drove up to Hull with it still wet. Not only did it get selected (out of I think around 2,000 entries – though that seems a lot) but it won the second prize. I didn’t get up for the prize-giving. The painting was also sold, I don’t know who to, but I think I’d priced it at £100, which is a bit annoying in retrospect. I spent the prize money on a not very good bike.
